FRIENDLY CRICKET · GROOT DRAK
Cricket and camaraderie on our Citrusdal mini-tour
17 October 2026 · Away — venue to be confirmed
By Nic Slabber
Skipper Nic Slabber lost the toss, and Citrusdal elected to bat. Nic and club stalwart Craig McNaught started well, with Craig taking early wickets. Alan Sherrat had great success bowling around the wicket, and Citrusdal were against the ropes at 49/4. Their middle order fought back hard to finish on 201/9.
Our reply started well, with new prospect George Kotras hitting beautiful shots and receiving good support from Mark Rist and Alan Sherrat. We were cruising along when Citrusdal brought on their big guns. Some aggressive balls were bowled at pace, and our wickets began to tumble. We finished on 134/9, falling 67 runs short.
Citrusdal is renowned for its fines session. After licking our wounds amid plenty of banter, we retired to our hotel for some late-night conversations. Ask Peter Cordy about his AI qualifications!
Even though we lost, we bonded well as a team and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
