CLUB & JUNIOR CRICKET · GROOT DRAK
Groot Drak v Rest of the World Tigers
7 November 2026 · Pickstone Oval — Home
By Nic Slabber
The Tigers are a senior side with all of the players being over 60 years old. As our tradition dictates, the Tigers went in to bat first. Skipper of the day, Nic Slabber, opened the bowling with Clauvenian West. Nic started with 2 maidens and a wicket, while Clauvenian took a while to settle on a rhythm. Eventually Clauvenian ending on 32-3 in 7 overs. We also had brilliant bowling by our legendary spinner, Bruce Taylor, with excellent figures of 19-2 in 6 overs. Batting resistance was provided by Jamie Foyster on 41 runs and Karl Storey on 51 runs not out. The Tigers ending on a total of 149 runs for 7 in 35 overs.
Our batting innings started with George Kotras quickly smashing 25 off 17 balls, supported by Rikus Walters on 24 off 32 balls. A number of wickets fell before MC Uys and Jaco Swarts batted intelligently to keep the scoreboard ticking. MC ending on 51 not out and Jaco on 25 not out. Groot Drak reached the target in 25 overs. Even though the GD team was a younger team, the Tigers put up a brave fight. It is always marvellous to see the passion and experience of cricketers that have given more than 50 years for the game that they love. We, as Drakies, salute you! 🫡🫡
